I agree with Robert D. 's eaither at the end of the string that is leaking or the valve that fills the shell fold. The valve, which fills the tank until it is more like, what, what you say about the application of the bathroom sink. Do close the sink lower the pressure in the tap water valve. If the ball is not high enough to swim through a defective or not properly matched, it could be one reason why valve is not closed, or it could be the valve. If this is the case depth, which are caused by dirt, could get under it and prevent it was not closed, or through a crack in the trap. This should be a relatively cheap, not more than $ 20 if you do it yourself.

Watch the water level in the reservoir. If the level is at the top of the overflow pipe, if your car is too low or float valve is leaking and needs to be replaced.
If the level is well below the top of the overflow pipe, your water faucet valve deformed or has to be replaced a bad seat in it and needs.

This is the case of rubber, which at the end of the rope inside the tank or float valve to fill a re-the tank. You should be able to replace a snare to you. But do not be too much or too little tension in the string. Replacing a float requires special skills, best to put on solving some in the tank with a wrench (and then the mother) under the tank. Earplugs are also the problem of the origin of the strange noises.

Low water level in the tank, where it is 1 "from bottom to top overflow pipe
